Welcome
More Than Learning About Yourself
Welcome to the Encourager DISC Discovery Guide. Whether you are part of Keys Vineyard Church, visiting us for the first time, or simply looking for a Christian approach to understanding personality, we’re glad you’re here.
The Encourager DISC assessment is designed to help you recognize some of the natural ways you communicate, make decisions, solve problems, and interact with other people. Greater self-awareness often leads to healthier relationships, stronger teams, and more effective ministry.
But as followers of Jesus, we believe our greatest goal is not simply understanding ourselves. Our desire is to become more like Christ. This guide is intended to help you approach the assessment with humility, honesty, and an open heart so that God can use what you discover for your continued spiritual growth.
Pause Before You Begin
Prepare Your Heart Before You Take the Assessment
We live in a culture that encourages us to move quickly. We often rush toward answers, click through questions without much thought, and hope for immediate results. Yet meaningful growth usually begins by slowing down.
Before you begin the Encourager DISC assessment, take a moment to remember that God already knows you completely. He knows your strengths, your challenges, your personality, your experiences, and the unique way He has created you. Nothing you discover today will surprise Him.
Rather than looking for a label, ask God to help you see yourself with honesty and grace. As you learn more about your natural behavioral patterns, invite the Holy Spirit to continue shaping every part of your life so that your character increasingly reflects Jesus.
“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
Psalm 139:23–24
Why Encourager DISC Matters
Better Self-Awareness Leads to Healthier Relationships
Every relationship is influenced by the way we naturally communicate, make decisions, respond to challenges, and encourage others. As we become more aware of these patterns, we are often better equipped to love people well, work together effectively, and serve Christ with greater wisdom.
Understand Yourself Better
Recognizing your natural behavioral style can help explain why certain situations energize you while others require extra effort. Greater awareness allows you to lead and serve from a place of authenticity rather than frustration.
Strengthen Your Relationships
DISC reminds us that not everyone approaches life the same way. Learning to appreciate different personalities can improve family relationships, friendships, ministry teams, and everyday conversations.
Serve More Effectively
God often uses our unique strengths in meaningful ways. As you better understand how you naturally contribute, you may discover new opportunities to serve others with confidence and joy.
Continue Growing in Christ
Self-awareness is never the destination. As followers of Jesus, we invite the Holy Spirit to shape every part of our lives so that our natural strengths are refined and our weaknesses become opportunities for spiritual growth.
The Four DISC Patterns
Four Common Ways People Relate to the World Around Them
Most people demonstrate qualities from each DISC pattern, although one or two styles usually feel more natural. None of these patterns is better than another. Each reflects unique strengths that God can use, as well as areas where we all continue to grow.
Dominance
Courage • Initiative • Determination
People with strong D tendencies often enjoy solving problems, embracing challenges, and moving projects forward. They are usually comfortable making decisions and taking responsibility. As they grow in Christ, they also learn the value of patience, humility, gentleness, and listening well.
Influence
Encouragement • Enthusiasm • Relationships
People with strong I tendencies often bring energy, optimism, and warmth wherever they go. They naturally connect with people and enjoy inspiring others. Continued growth often includes developing consistency, careful listening, and faithful follow-through.
Steadiness
Faithfulness • Compassion • Dependability
Those with strong S tendencies are often patient, supportive, and dependable friends and teammates. They create stability wherever they serve. As they mature, they learn to embrace healthy change, speak truth with love, and establish wise boundaries.
Conscientiousness
Wisdom • Excellence • Thoughtfulness
People with strong C tendencies often value accuracy, responsibility, and careful thinking. They desire to do things well and serve faithfully. Spiritual growth encourages them to balance excellence with grace, flexibility, and trust in God’s leading.
Use Your Results Wisely
What Encourager DISC Can—and Cannot—Tell You
DISC can offer meaningful insight, but it is important to understand both its value and its limits. It is a helpful tool for reflection, not a complete explanation of who you are or what God is calling you to do.
Encourager DISC Can Help You
- Recognize some of your natural behavioral tendencies.
- Understand how you commonly communicate with other people.
- Notice how you may respond to pressure, conflict, or change.
- Identify strengths you can use to encourage and serve others.
- Appreciate people whose approach to life differs from your own.
- Consider areas where God may be inviting you to grow.
Encourager DISC Cannot
- Define your identity, dignity, or worth.
- Measure your love for God or your spiritual maturity.
- Reveal every spiritual gift, ability, or life experience.
- Decide which ministry role or vocation you should pursue.
- Excuse impatience, unkindness, avoidance, or unhealthy behavior.
- Replace Scripture, prayer, Christian community, or wise counsel.
Your Truest Identity
Your DISC Results Describe Patterns. They Do Not Define You.
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
Ephesians 2:10
Your personality matters, but it is not the deepest truth about you. Your deepest identity is found in Christ. You are loved by God, created with purpose, invited into His family, and continually being formed into the likeness of Jesus.
Your DISC profile may help explain why some behaviors come naturally to you. It may also reveal patterns that affect the people around you. But your results should never become an excuse for remaining unchanged. Saying, “That is simply the way I am,” can close our hearts to the transforming work of the Holy Spirit.
Jesus does not erase our personalities. He redeems and matures them. Boldness can become courageous service. Enthusiasm can become faithful encouragement. Stability can become steadfast love. Careful thinking can become godly wisdom.
Every DISC pattern has strengths that can bless others and tendencies that may need healing, wisdom, or growth. The goal is not to become someone else. The goal is to allow Jesus to shape the person God created you to be.
Before You Answer
Six Ways to Approach the Assessment Thoughtfully
The assessment is most helpful when you answer according to your normal tendencies rather than trying to present an ideal version of yourself. These simple practices will help you respond with honesty and receive a more meaningful profile.
Be Honest
Select the answer that most accurately describes you, even when another response sounds more impressive, spiritual, or desirable.
Answer for This Season
Think about the person you are today. Avoid answering primarily according to who you were years ago or who you hope to become.
Trust Your First Response
Do not overthink every question. Your first instinct will often reflect your natural pattern more clearly than a carefully edited answer.
Look Beyond Your Role
Try not to answer only as an employee, parent, pastor, volunteer, or team leader. Consider how you naturally respond across different areas of life.
Remain Curious
Some results may feel familiar, while others may surprise you. Receive what you discover with openness rather than defensiveness.
Invite God Into the Process
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you see yourself clearly and use what you learn to strengthen your relationships and deepen your walk with Jesus.
After the Assessment
Receive Your Results With Humility and Hope
Your report is intended to begin a conversation, not end one. As you read your results, give yourself time to notice what feels accurate, what challenges you, and where God may be drawing your attention.
Recognize What Fits
Notice the descriptions that reflect the way you usually speak, decide, solve problems, relate to others, and respond under stress.
Pay Attention to Growth Areas
Consider where a natural strength may sometimes become unbalanced or where one of your tendencies may make relationships more difficult.
Invite Trusted Perspective
A spouse, close friend, pastor, mentor, or ministry leader may help you understand how your natural patterns are experienced by others.
Choose One Faithful Next Step
Rather than trying to change everything at once, identify one practical way to listen, communicate, encourage, lead, or serve more like Jesus.
Personal Reflection
Take a Few Minutes to Reflect Before You Continue
You do not need to write down your answers unless that would be helpful. Simply slow down and consider each question honestly. These reflections can help you approach the assessment with greater awareness.
In which relationships do you find it easiest to communicate clearly and naturally?
What kinds of situations tend to make you feel pressured, misunderstood, impatient, or withdrawn?
What strengths do other people most often recognize and appreciate in you?
Are there certain personalities or communication styles that are more difficult for you to understand?
Where might greater self-awareness help you love, encourage, or serve someone more faithfully?
Is there an area of your personality that you sense God may be inviting you to surrender, strengthen, or mature?
Pause and Pray
Invite God Into What You Are About to Discover
Before you move forward, take a quiet moment. Remember that God sees you completely and loves you deeply. You are not taking this assessment to earn His approval or prove your value. You are simply becoming more attentive to the person He created you to be and the ways He continues to form you.
Lord, thank You for knowing me fully and loving me faithfully.
Thank You for the strengths, experiences, relationships, and personality You have woven into my life.
As I take this assessment, help me answer honestly and receive my results with humility. Show me how I can use my strengths to encourage others, serve Your Church, and reflect the love of Jesus.
Reveal any attitudes, habits, or reactions that need Your healing and transformation. Teach me to listen more carefully, love more patiently, speak more graciously, and serve more faithfully.
May everything I learn draw me closer to You and help me become more like Christ.
Amen.
