Before You Begin
God forms His people through seasons, not shortcuts.
Throughout Scripture we see God patiently shaping His people over time. Abraham learned to trust. Moses spent years in preparation. David experienced both wilderness and kingship. Peter was restored. Paul continually grew in grace throughout his ministry.
Spiritual formation is rarely instantaneous. God works through seasons of seeking, waiting, learning, surrendering, serving, resting, and growing. Encourager PATH simply provides language that may help you recognize where God is presently meeting you.
This assessment does not determine your value, define your identity, or measure your spiritual maturity. Your identity is found in Jesus Christ alone. PATH is simply a tool that can encourage thoughtful reflection and faithful discipleship.
Begin with honesty. Don’t answer according to where you wish you were. Instead, answer according to what has most consistently been true of your life during this season.
Slow Down
Make space to notice God’s work before answering questions.
Our lives are often busy enough that we move from one responsibility to another without stopping to notice what God may already be doing. Before taking the assessment, take a few quiet moments to reflect.
Rather than trying to achieve a particular result, ask God to help you become attentive. Where has He been inviting you? Where have you sensed joy, conviction, growth, resistance, or fresh desire?

- What has captured my spiritual attention over the last few months?
- Where do I feel invited to trust Jesus more deeply?
- What spiritual habits have become stronger—or weaker?
- How am I currently serving God’s Kingdom?
- What would faithfulness look like during this season?

Every believer experiences each of these dimensions at different times. One or two may simply be more evident in your present season.
Pursuing
Growing Through Spiritual Hunger
Pursuing reflects seasons where God awakens fresh curiosity, renewed desire, deeper questions, and a longing to know Him more fully.
Often expressed through:
- Seeking God with fresh openness
- Exploring Scripture more intentionally
- Asking important spiritual questions
- Rediscovering purpose and calling
Focus: Seek Christ with an open heart.
Abiding
Growing Deeper Roots
Abiding reflects seasons where God strengthens your daily relationship with Him through consistent rhythms of grace, prayer, worship, Scripture, and dependence.
Often expressed through:
- Developing consistent spiritual practices
- Learning to rest in God’s presence
- Growing in trust rather than striving
- Building deeper spiritual stability
Focus: Remain close to Jesus every day.
Transforming
Becoming More Like Christ
Transforming reflects seasons where the Holy Spirit is reshaping attitudes, priorities, relationships, and habits so that Christ’s character becomes increasingly visible.
Often expressed through:
- Responding to conviction
- Learning new patterns of obedience
- Allowing unhealthy habits to change
- Growing in Christlike character
Focus: Yield to God’s transforming work.
Harvesting
Living a Fruitful Life
Harvesting reflects seasons where your relationship with Christ increasingly blesses other people through service, encouragement, leadership, generosity, and discipleship.
Often expressed through:
- Serving faithfully
- Investing in others
- Leading with humility
- Multiplying Kingdom influence
Focus: Bear fruit while remaining dependent upon Christ.
A Fuller Picture
Your present season may include more than one dimension.
Spiritual growth is rarely expressed through only one pattern. You may recognize a primary PATH dimension along with a secondary dimension that helps describe another important part of what God is doing in your life.
You may be Pursuing and Abiding, for example, as fresh spiritual hunger begins developing into steady habits of prayer and Scripture. You may be Abiding and Transforming as deeper roots in Christ begin reshaping your choices, relationships, and priorities.
You may also be Transforming and Harvesting, experiencing meaningful personal change while continuing to serve, lead, or encourage others.
A blended profile is not a mixed message. It may reveal how several parts of your spiritual life are developing together during the same season.
Use PATH Wisely
A helpful guide should support discernment, not replace it.
PATH can help you notice patterns and consider next steps, but it should always remain within the larger context of Scripture, prayer, Christian community, and dependence upon the Holy Spirit.
PATH Can Help You

PATH Cannot
- Define who you are in Christ

- Replace biblical wisdom, prayer, or Christian community
- Provide a complete map of everything God will do next
Your Foundation
Your profile may describe a season, but Christ defines your life.
“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 1:6Encourager PATH may help describe something about your current experience, but it does not tell the whole story of who you are. Your deepest identity is not Pursuing, Abiding, Transforming, or Harvesting. Your identity is found in Jesus Christ.
In Christ, you are loved before you accomplish anything. You are received by grace, invited into relationship with God, and formed over time by the Holy Spirit.
You are not more important when your service is visible, and you are not less faithful when God is calling you into rest, healing, learning, renewed seeking, or deeper dependence.
The God who began His work in you remains faithful in every season.
Spiritual Maturity
Maturity is faithfulness to Jesus, not arrival at a particular stage.
It can be easy to assume that Harvesting is the highest or most mature PATH dimension. In the same way, someone might wrongly view Pursuing as merely a beginner’s season or Transforming as evidence that something has gone wrong.
That is not how PATH should be understood. A mature follower of Jesus may enter a fresh season of Pursuing because God is awakening new hunger. A fruitful leader may need a renewed season of Abiding because service has outpaced rest and relationship with Christ.
A longtime believer may enter a deep season of Transforming as God exposes an attitude, wound, habit, or priority that needs to be surrendered. Someone new to faith may begin Harvesting early by encouraging others with genuine joy and simple faithfulness.
Spiritual maturity is responsive. It is seen in our willingness to listen to Jesus, trust His leadership, and faithfully respond to what He is doing now.
Prepare
How to Approach Your PATH Assessment
A thoughtful posture will help your results reflect your real experience more accurately.
Think About Recent Months
Answer according to what has been consistently true in your present season rather than what was true years ago.
Resist Choosing the Ideal Answer
Select the response that honestly describes your life, not the one that sounds most spiritual, mature, or productive.
Look for Patterns
Consider recurring desires, struggles, habits, relationships, opportunities, and responses rather than one unusual moment.
Hold the Results Openly
Allow your profile to begin prayer and reflection rather than treating it as a final statement about your life.
Receive
Let your results become the beginning of a conversation.
When you receive your PATH profile, read it slowly. Notice what seems to reflect your present experience and what may require further prayer, thought, or conversation.
Notice without judging. You do not need to immediately decide whether the result is good or bad. Begin by paying attention.
Bring it before God. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal what is timely, helpful, and worthy of a faithful response.
Invite trusted perspective. A pastor, mentor, group leader, or mature Christian friend may help you see your season more clearly.
Choose one meaningful step. Growth is often strengthened through a simple practice, conversation, act of obedience, or new rhythm repeated faithfully.
Personal Reflection
Consider what a faithful response might look like.
What desire, challenge, or invitation has appeared most consistently in my spiritual life recently?
Where might Jesus be inviting me to seek Him, remain with Him, surrender to Him, or serve with Him?
What relationship, spiritual practice, learning opportunity, or act of obedience may support my growth?
Am I willing to receive an honest picture of my present season without comparison, shame, or self-promotion?
A Prayer Before Discovery
Invite Jesus to guide your reflection.
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your patience and faithfulness throughout every season of my life.
Help me slow down and recognize what You may be doing in me right now. Give me honesty as I answer, humility as I receive my results, and wisdom as I consider how to respond.
Keep me from comparing my journey with anyone else’s. Remind me that my identity, value, and hope are found in You rather than in an assessment or profile.
Awaken fresh hunger where I have become distracted. Deepen my roots where I have become hurried. Transform what does not yet reflect Your character. Produce fruit in me that strengthens, serves, and blesses others.
Lead me by Your Holy Spirit and help me take the next faithful step with You. Amen.
