Life Questions

WHAT IS LIFE ABOUT?

I Think I Am Ready to Follow Jesus. What Do I Do?

You do not need to understand everything before you begin. Following Jesus starts with turning toward Him and placing your trust in what He has done for you.

Perhaps you have been exploring for a while.

You have asked questions about God, faith, Christianity, and Jesus. You may still have questions. You may even have some significant ones.

But somewhere along the way, the question may have changed.

It is no longer only, What do I think about Jesus?

It has become, Am I ready to trust Him and follow Him?

If that is where you are, you do not need to have everything figured out before taking that step.

Begin With What Jesus Has Done

Christianity does not begin with what you promise to do for God.

It begins with what God has done for you.

The Christian story says that we were made for life with God, but we have chosen to live independently of Him. The Bible calls this sin. It separates us from the source of the life we were created to receive.

Jesus came toward us in that separation.

Through His death on the cross, Jesus dealt with our sin. Through His resurrection, He defeated death and opened the way to new life with God.

That means following Jesus does not begin by making yourself worthy of Him.

It begins by receiving what He has already done.

You do not need to say:
I will make myself good enough for God.

You can say:
I cannot give myself the life only God can give.

And then:
Jesus, I am placing my trust in You.

Turn Toward Jesus

The Bible uses the word repentance to describe part of this response.

Repentance is not simply feeling guilty or regretting things you have done.

It is a change of direction.

We turn from living as though we belong entirely to ourselves, and we turn toward God.

That does not mean you will immediately understand how every part of your life needs to change.

It means you are becoming willing to let Jesus lead.

Place Your Trust in Him

The other side of turning is trusting.

The New Testament says, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.”

Biblical belief is more than agreeing that Jesus exists. It means entrusting yourself to Him.

You are trusting that His death and resurrection are enough. You are trusting Him for forgiveness. You are receiving the life He offers. And you are beginning to follow Him as Lord.

You do not have to earn that life.

Life with God is received, not achieved.

You Can Talk to Jesus Right Now

There are no magic words that make someone a Christian.

Prayer is simply a way of honestly expressing to God what is happening in your heart.

If you are ready to turn toward Jesus and trust Him, you can speak to Him in your own words.

You might say something like:

Jesus, I need the life You offer.

I have lived in my own way, and I am turning toward You. Thank You for loving me and for what You have done for me through the cross and resurrection.

I place my trust in You. Forgive me, give me Your life, and teach me to follow You.

The particular words are not what matter.

What matters is the trust they express.

Following Jesus Is a Beginning

If you have placed your trust in Jesus, you have not reached the end of a spiritual journey.

You have begun one.

You will still have questions. You will still have things to learn. There will be parts of your life that take time to change. You will have days when faith feels strong and others when following Jesus feels difficult.

That is why Jesus does not simply call people to make a decision.

He calls people to follow Him.

You can begin learning to pray, reading the story of Jesus, connecting with other Christians, and discovering what it means to live each day with God.

You do not have to know everything today.

You simply begin following the One you have decided to trust.
