Kingdom Foreshadowed Part 8 Devotionals
Day 1: The Foundation of Love
Devotional The Ten Commandments are often seen as a list of rules, but they are much more than that. They are a love document, guiding us in our relationships with God and others. Jesus summarized their essence in Matthew 22:36-40, emphasizing the importance of loving God with all our heart, soul, and mind, and loving our neighbor as ourselves. This foundational love is the bedrock of our faith and our daily interactions. When we love God fully, it naturally extends to loving those around us. This week, let’s focus on building our lives on this foundation of love.
Bible Verse‘ Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?’ Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.’ – Matthew 22:36-40
Reflection Question How can you show love to God and your neighbors in your daily life?
Quote Love God all in, love your neighbor as yourself.
Prayer Lord, help me to love You with all my heart, soul, and mind. Teach me to extend that love to my neighbors, reflecting Your love in all my actions. Amen.
Day 2: Avoiding Idolatry
Devotional The first two commandments warn us against idolatry. We are instructed not to worship other gods or create images of God from our imagination. This is crucial because any physical or imagined representation of God falls short of His true nature. Jesus is the visible representation of the invisible God, as stated in Colossians 1:15-20. By focusing on Jesus, we avoid the pitfalls of idolatry and align our understanding of God with the truth. Let’s commit to worshiping God as He truly is, not as we imagine Him to be.
Bible Verse ‘The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.’ – Colossians 1:15-17
Reflection Question Are there any ‘idols’ in your life that you need to let go of to focus more on the true nature of God?
Quote Jesus is the visible representation of the invisible God.
Prayer Father, help me to see You as You truly are and to avoid creating idols in my life. Let my worship be pure and focused on You alone. Amen.
Day 3: Honoring God’s Name
Devotional The third commandment calls us to honor God’s name, which goes beyond avoiding misuse in speech. It involves living in a way that reflects our intimate relationship with Him. When we bear God’s name, we represent Him in our actions and words. Jesus invites us into a relational journey, saying, ‘Follow me.’ This means our lives should be a testament to His love and truth. Let’s strive to honor God’s name by living authentically and faithfully.
Bible Verse ‘Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’ – John 14:6
Reflection Question In what ways can you honor God’s name through your actions and words today?
Quote Taking the name in reality involves having an intimate relationship with God.
Prayer Lord, help me to honor Your name in all that I do. Let my life be a reflection of Your love and truth. Amen.
Day 4: Commitment in Relationships
Devotional The Ten Commandments emphasize the importance of commitment in our relationships with God and others. Jesus demonstrated this commitment through His life and teachings. In John 21:15-19, Jesus reinstates Peter, showing that despite our failures, we are called to follow Him and commit to His ways. This commitment requires effort and intentionality. Let’s reflect on our relationships and consider how we can deepen our commitment to God and those around us.
Bible Verse ‘When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, ‘Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?’ ‘Yes, Lord,’ he said, ‘you know that I love you.’ Jesus said, ‘Feed my lambs.’ – John 21:15
Reflection Question How can you show greater commitment in your relationship with God and others?
Quote Relationship takes effort. You have to be involved in it. Relationship with God is the same way.
Prayer Jesus, help me to be committed in my relationships with You and others. Give me the strength to follow You faithfully. Amen.
Day 5: Embracing Jesus as the Way
Devotional The Ten Commandments guide us to live in truth and avoid hypocrisy. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and by embracing Him, we can live out these principles authentically. In 1 Peter 1:8-9, we are reminded of the joy and salvation that come from believing in Jesus. Let’s start by saying yes to Jesus, making Him the treasure of our lives. This is the beginning of everything, and through His faithfulness, we can navigate life’s challenges with confidence.
Bible Verse ‘Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.’ – 1 Peter 1:8-9
Reflection Question Have you made Jesus the treasure of your life? How can you deepen your relationship with Him today?
Quote Start by saying yes to Jesus. Jesus, will you be my lord, my treasure, my savior? It’s the beginning of everything.
Prayer Jesus, I say yes to You. Be my Lord, my treasure, and my Savior. Help me to live out Your truth and love every day. Amen.

Day 1: Trust and Rest
Devotional As we begin our journey, let’s reflect on the importance of trust and rest in our relationship with God. The Israelites’ journey from Egypt to the Promised Land is a powerful illustration of this. They had to trust God to part the Red Sea and lead them to safety. Similarly, we are called to trust God in our own lives, knowing that He will guide us through our challenges. Trusting God allows us to enter into His rest, freeing us from anxiety and fear.
Bible Verse When Pharaoh’s horses, chariots and horsemen went into the sea, the Lord brought the waters of the sea back over them, but the Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground. – Exodus 15:19
Reflection Question Which side of the Red Sea are you on at the moment? Are you resting and trusting in the Lord, or are you restless and not?
Quote If you don’t learn to trust God, you’ll never enter into rest with God.
Prayer Lord, help me to trust You more each day. Teach me to rest in Your promises and to find peace in Your presence. Amen.
Day 2: The Blueprint of Love
Devotional The Ten Commandments, or ‘Ten Words,’ were given to the Israelites not as a means of salvation, but as a guide for living in God’s love. These commandments are a love document, showing us how to live as God’s people. They remind us that our relationship with God is built on trust and rest. When we trust God, we can rest in His love and extend that love to others.
Bible Verse Then Miriam the prophet, Aaron’s sister, took a timbrel in her hand, and all the women followed her, with timbrels and dancing. – Exodus 15:20
Reflection Question How can you see the Ten Commandments as a guide for living in God’s love rather than a set of rules?
Quote The ten words were given not on how to be rescued and delivered, but to people who had been rescued and delivered.
Prayer Father, thank You for Your commandments that guide us in love. Help me to see them as a way to deepen my relationship with You and others. Amen.
Day 3: The Sabbath Reset
Devotional The Sabbath is more than just a day of rest; it’s a reset for our lives. God commands us to take one day each week to stop our busy work and focus on Him. This act of trust allows us to rest in His provision and reminds us that He is in control. By observing the Sabbath, we reset our priorities and realign our hearts with God’s will.
Bible Verse Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. – Exodus 30
Reflection Question How can you incorporate a Sabbath rest into your weekly routine to reset and refocus on God?
Quote One of the ways that God helps us with this is in the fourth word, it’s about a Sabbath rest. And that actually says reset.
Prayer Lord, teach me to honor the Sabbath and to use it as a time to reset my life. Help me to trust in Your provision and to find rest in Your presence. Amen.
Day 4: Avoiding Idolatry
Devotional When we are restless and anxious, we are more prone to creating idols in our lives. The Israelites did this when they made the golden calf while waiting for Moses. Idolatry happens when we seek substitutes for God because we are not resting in Him. By trusting and resting in God, we can avoid the pitfalls of idolatry and keep our focus on Him.
Bible Verse For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. – Matthew 11
Reflection Question What idols have you created in your life due to restlessness and anxiety? How can you refocus on God?
Quote Our idols are formed when we’re restless. So if we’re not at the place of rest, if we’re restless and anxious, we will often form idols in our lives.
Prayer Father, forgive me for the idols I have created in my life. Help me to trust and rest in You, keeping my focus on Your love and provision. Amen.
Day 5: God’s Restorative Power
Devotional God is a God who restores. He desires to bring us back to a place of wholeness and completeness. The story of Elisha and the floating axe head is a testament to God’s restorative power. When we trust and rest in Him, we open ourselves to His restoration. Whether we need physical, emotional, or spiritual healing, God is ready to restore us.
Bible Verse The man of God asked, ‘Where did it fall?’ When he showed him the place, Elisha cut a stick and threw it there, and made the iron float. – 2 Kings
Reflection Question What areas of your life need God’s restorative power? How can you invite Him to restore you?
Quote God is a God who restores. It’s the heart of God. He wants to bring things back into a place of wholeness and completeness so that you can experience them.
Prayer Lord, I invite Your restorative power into my life. Heal and restore me in every area where I am broken. Help me to trust and rest in You. Amen.

Kingdom Foreshadowed Part 6 Devotionals
Day 1: Understanding Your True Worth
Devotional In today’s society, our worth is often measured by how much we can produce or achieve. However, God isn’t interested in your bricks. He cares about you. Your value is inherent, given by God, and not tied to your productivity. Reflect on the story of Exodus, where God freed His people from slavery, not because of their output, but because of His love for them. This is a powerful reminder that our worth is found in our relationship with God, not in our accomplishments.
Bible Verse “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28
Reflection Question In what ways have you been measuring your worth by your productivity? How can you shift your focus to find your value in God’s love for you?
Quote God doesn’t care about your bricks. He cares about you.
Prayer Lord, help me to see my worth through Your eyes. Teach me to value myself not for what I do, but for who I am in You. Amen.
Day 2: Embracing Rest
Devotional Rest is more than just taking a break from work; it’s about finding peace in God’s provision. The Ten Commandments remind us to keep the Sabbath holy, a day dedicated to rest and worship. This commandment is not just a rule but an invitation to trust in God’s goodness and provision. By practicing intentional rest, we acknowledge that our lives are in God’s hands and that He is our ultimate provider.
Bible Verse “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” – Matthew 11:29
Reflection Question How can you incorporate intentional rest into your weekly routine to honor God and trust in His provision?
Quote God wants you to experience the peace of God in the midst of what’s going on and in what you’re doing in your day to day lives.
Prayer Father, teach me to embrace rest as a gift from You. Help me to trust in Your provision and find peace in Your presence. Amen.
Day 3: Rejecting the Idols of Performance
Devotional The first commandment calls us to reject the idols of performance and embrace our true worth in God. In a culture that glorifies busyness and productivity, it’s easy to fall into the trap of measuring our value by our achievements. However, God created us for relationship, not for relentless toil. By rejecting the idols of performance, we can focus on building a deeper relationship with God and others.
Bible Verse “For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:30
Reflection Question What are the ‘idols of performance’ in your life that you need to reject? How can you focus more on your relationship with God and others?
Quote People weren’t created to live as commodities. People have dignity, people have worth, people have value, and they’re made for relationship with God and each other.
Prayer Lord, help me to identify and reject the idols of performance in my life. Teach me to find my worth in You and to prioritize my relationship with You and others. Amen.
Day 4: Trusting in God’s Goodness
Devotional Trusting in God’s goodness is essential for experiencing true rest and peace. The story of Exodus shows us that God desires to set His people free from bondage and lead them to a life of freedom. This freedom comes from trusting in God’s plan and provision. When we trust in God’s goodness, we can let go of our anxieties and find contentment in His care.
Bible Verse “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28
Reflection Question In what areas of your life do you need to trust in God’s goodness more fully? How can this trust lead to greater peace and contentment?
Quote God wants you to be at a spot where you can just go, God, I know that you’re good. I trust you. I want to go your way, eat from the tree of life. I want to be in relationship with you and with others.
Prayer Father, help me to trust in Your goodness and provision. Teach me to let go of my anxieties and find peace in Your care. Amen.
Day 5: Moving Towards Freedom
Devotional God’s desire is for us to live a life of freedom, free from the relentless toil and the pressures of productivity. The story of Moses and the Israelites’ deliverance from Egypt is a powerful reminder that God wants to set His people free. By trusting in God’s plan and embracing the rest He offers, we can move towards the life of freedom that God intends for us.
Bible Verse “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” – Matthew 11:29
Reflection Question What steps can you take to move towards the life of freedom that God intends for you? How can you embrace the rest and peace that God offers?
Quote God wants to set his people free from that relentless toil.
Prayer Lord, lead me towards the life of freedom that You have planned for me. Help me to embrace Your rest and find peace in Your presence. Amen.
