Kingdom Foreshadowed Part 17 Devotionals

Day 1: The Desire to Build

Devotional David, after establishing peace in his kingdom, had a noble desire to build a house for God. He felt it was unfair that he lived in a palace while the Ark of God was in a tent. This desire reflects a heart that seeks to honor God. However, God had different plans. He promised to establish an everlasting kingdom through David’s lineage, showing that God’s plans are often greater than our own. This teaches us to trust in God’s timing and His grand design for our lives.

Bible Verse ‘Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever.’ – 2 Samuel 7:16

Reflection Question Have you ever had a desire to do something for God, only to find out He had a different plan? How did you respond?

Quote David has a nice palace and he’s hanging around, and he sort of has the thought that I’ve got this nice palace and God’s hanging out in a tent, maybe I should do something about that.

Prayer Lord, help me to trust in Your plans for my life. Even when my desires are noble, teach me to seek Your will above my own. Amen.

Day 2: God’s Promise

Devotional God’s response to David’s desire to build a house for Him was profound. Instead of David building a house for God, God promised to build a house for David. This house was not a physical structure but an everlasting kingdom through David’s lineage. This promise was fulfilled in Jesus Christ, who established an eternal kingdom. It reminds us that God’s promises are sure and His plans are always for our good.

Bible Verse ‘Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in front of the whole assembly of Israel. And he spread out his hands toward heaven and he said, Lord, the God of Israel, there’s no God like you in heaven above or on earth below.’ – 1 Kings 8:22-23

Reflection Question How do you react when God’s plans for you are different from your own? Do you trust in His promises?

Quote God says he’ll build the house, which I get a kick out of because God, you know, David wants to build a house for God. And God says, thanks, David, but I’ll build a house.

Prayer Father, thank You for Your promises that never fail. Help me to trust in Your plans and to find peace in Your promises. Amen.

Day 3: The True Temple

Devotional Solomon built the Temple that David had envisioned, and God’s presence filled it, reestablishing the divine connection between heaven and earth. However, this physical Temple was a foreshadowing of the true Temple, Jesus Christ. Jesus declared that He is the Temple, the perfect connection between heaven and earth. Through His death and resurrection, He made it possible for us to become the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit.

Bible Verse ‘Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days. But the temple he had spoken of was his body.’ – John 2:19-21

Reflection Question How does knowing that Jesus is the true Temple change your understanding of God’s presence in your life?

Quote Jesus is going to introduce himself as the temple in John two. In John chapter one, we talked about this, that he says it’s a tabernacle moment, right? Because he’s going to pitch his tent among us, he tabernacles among us, the place where heaven and earth meet, the presence of God is.

Prayer Jesus, thank You for being the perfect connection between heaven and earth. Help me to understand and appreciate Your presence in my life. Amen.

Day 4: The Indwelling Spirit

Devotional With Jesus’ resurrection, believers become the new Temple, the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. This profound truth calls us to live holy lives, acknowledging God’s presence within us. The Holy Spirit empowers us to be a light to the world, drawing others to Jesus. It is a magnificent and wonderful reality that the Spirit of God lives in us, making us a place where heaven and earth meet.

Bible Verse ‘Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit who’s in you, whom you’ve received from God? You’re not your own.’ – 1 Corinthians 6:19

Reflection Question How does the knowledge that the Holy Spirit lives in you influence your daily life and decisions?

Quote You’re now the moving temple of the Lord, the portable presence of the Lord, because Holy Spirit lives in you.

Prayer Holy Spirit, thank You for dwelling within me. Help me to live a life that honors Your presence and draws others to Jesus. Amen.

Day 5: Living as the Temple

Devotional As the Temple of the Holy Spirit, we are called to live in a way that reflects God’s glory. This means being a light in the world, showing love, grace, and truth to those around us. Our lives should draw others to Jesus, the true Temple. Everything that matters starts by knowing Jesus as the Lord and Savior of our lives. When we say yes to Jesus, the Holy Spirit fills us, and we become a place where heaven and earth meet.

Bible Verse ‘For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.’ – 1 Corinthians 15:3-4

Reflection Question In what ways can you live as the Temple of the Holy Spirit and make a difference in the world around you?

Quote Live like that so that you can make a difference in the world around us.

Prayer Lord, help me to live as Your Temple, reflecting Your glory and drawing others to You. Fill me with Your Spirit and guide me in all I do. Amen.
