Kingdom Foreshadowed Part 7 Devotionals

Day 1: Trust and Rest

Devotional As we begin our journey, let’s reflect on the importance of trust and rest in our relationship with God. The Israelites’ journey from Egypt to the Promised Land is a powerful illustration of this. They had to trust God to part the Red Sea and lead them to safety. Similarly, we are called to trust God in our own lives, knowing that He will guide us through our challenges. Trusting God allows us to enter into His rest, freeing us from anxiety and fear.

Bible Verse When Pharaoh’s horses, chariots and horsemen went into the sea, the Lord brought the waters of the sea back over them, but the Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground. – Exodus 15:19

Reflection Question Which side of the Red Sea are you on at the moment? Are you resting and trusting in the Lord, or are you restless and not?

Quote If you don’t learn to trust God, you’ll never enter into rest with God.

Prayer Lord, help me to trust You more each day. Teach me to rest in Your promises and to find peace in Your presence. Amen.

Day 2: The Blueprint of Love

Devotional The Ten Commandments, or ‘Ten Words,’ were given to the Israelites not as a means of salvation, but as a guide for living in God’s love. These commandments are a love document, showing us how to live as God’s people. They remind us that our relationship with God is built on trust and rest. When we trust God, we can rest in His love and extend that love to others.

Bible Verse Then Miriam the prophet, Aaron’s sister, took a timbrel in her hand, and all the women followed her, with timbrels and dancing. – Exodus 15:20

Reflection Question How can you see the Ten Commandments as a guide for living in God’s love rather than a set of rules?

Quote The ten words were given not on how to be rescued and delivered, but to people who had been rescued and delivered.

Prayer Father, thank You for Your commandments that guide us in love. Help me to see them as a way to deepen my relationship with You and others. Amen.

Day 3: The Sabbath Reset

Devotional The Sabbath is more than just a day of rest; it’s a reset for our lives. God commands us to take one day each week to stop our busy work and focus on Him. This act of trust allows us to rest in His provision and reminds us that He is in control. By observing the Sabbath, we reset our priorities and realign our hearts with God’s will.

Bible Verse Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. – Exodus 30

Reflection Question How can you incorporate a Sabbath rest into your weekly routine to reset and refocus on God?

Quote One of the ways that God helps us with this is in the fourth word, it’s about a Sabbath rest. And that actually says reset.

Prayer Lord, teach me to honor the Sabbath and to use it as a time to reset my life. Help me to trust in Your provision and to find rest in Your presence. Amen.

Day 4: Avoiding Idolatry

Devotional When we are restless and anxious, we are more prone to creating idols in our lives. The Israelites did this when they made the golden calf while waiting for Moses. Idolatry happens when we seek substitutes for God because we are not resting in Him. By trusting and resting in God, we can avoid the pitfalls of idolatry and keep our focus on Him.

Bible Verse For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. – Matthew 11

Reflection Question What idols have you created in your life due to restlessness and anxiety? How can you refocus on God?

Quote Our idols are formed when we’re restless. So if we’re not at the place of rest, if we’re restless and anxious, we will often form idols in our lives.

Prayer Father, forgive me for the idols I have created in my life. Help me to trust and rest in You, keeping my focus on Your love and provision. Amen.

Day 5: God’s Restorative Power

Devotional God is a God who restores. He desires to bring us back to a place of wholeness and completeness. The story of Elisha and the floating axe head is a testament to God’s restorative power. When we trust and rest in Him, we open ourselves to His restoration. Whether we need physical, emotional, or spiritual healing, God is ready to restore us.

Bible Verse The man of God asked, ‘Where did it fall?’ When he showed him the place, Elisha cut a stick and threw it there, and made the iron float. – 2 Kings

Reflection Question What areas of your life need God’s restorative power? How can you invite Him to restore you?

Quote God is a God who restores. It’s the heart of God. He wants to bring things back into a place of wholeness and completeness so that you can experience them.

Prayer Lord, I invite Your restorative power into my life. Heal and restore me in every area where I am broken. Help me to trust and rest in You. Amen.
