Kingdom Coming Part 3 Devotionals
Day 1: The Cursed Tree
Devotional Jeremiah uses the powerful analogy of two trees to illustrate his message. The cursed tree, representing those who trust in human strength, dwells in parched places and leads to a life of desolation. When we place our trust in our own abilities or in other people, we often find ourselves in a spiritual wasteland, feeling dry and unfulfilled. This is because human strength is limited and unreliable. Reflect on areas in your life where you might be relying too much on your own strength or the strength of others. Recognize that this path leads to desolation and emptiness.
Bible Verse ‘Thus says the Lord: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart turns away from the Lord.”’ – Jeremiah 17:5
Reflection Question In what areas of your life are you relying on your own strength or the strength of others instead of trusting in God?
Quote The cursed tree, representing those who trust in human strength, dwells in parched places and leads to a life of desolation.
Prayer Lord, help me to see the areas in my life where I am relying on my own strength or the strength of others. Guide me to place my trust in You alone, so that I may avoid the desolation that comes from misplaced confidence. Amen.
Day 2: The Blessed Tree
Devotional In contrast to the cursed tree, the blessed tree is rooted by the water, symbolizing those who trust in God and continually bear fruit, even in challenging times. When we place our trust in God, we are like a tree planted by streams of water, always nourished and able to withstand difficult seasons. This trust in God allows us to experience peace and fruitfulness, regardless of external circumstances. Reflect on how trusting in God has brought you peace and fruitfulness in your life.
Bible Verse ‘He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.’ – Jeremiah 17:8
Reflection Question How has trusting in God brought peace and fruitfulness into your life, even during challenging times?
Quote The blessed tree, rooted by the water, symbolizes those who trust in God and continually bear fruit, even in challenging times.
Prayer Heavenly Father, thank You for being my source of strength and nourishment. Help me to trust in You fully, so that I may be like the blessed tree, always bearing fruit and experiencing Your peace. Amen.
Day 3: The Deceitfulness of the Heart
Devotional Jeremiah warns about the deceitfulness of the human heart, which often leads us to place our trust in unreliable sources. Our hearts can be deceptive, making us believe that we can find security and strength in things other than God. This deception can lead us away from the true source of life and into a state of spiritual drought. Take time to examine your heart and identify any areas where you might be deceived into trusting in something other than God.
Bible Verse ‘The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?’ – Jeremiah 17:9
Reflection Question Are there areas in your life where your heart has deceived you into trusting in something other than God?
Quote Jeremiah also warns about the deceitfulness of the human heart, which often leads us to place our trust in unreliable sources.
Prayer Lord, reveal to me the areas where my heart has deceived me. Help me to see clearly and to place my trust in You alone. Cleanse my heart and guide me back to You. Amen.
Day 4: Replanting Our Roots
Devotional To overcome the deceitfulness of our hearts, we must replant our roots in God, making Him our ultimate source of security and strength. This means consciously choosing to trust in God and aligning our lives with His will. It’s not about trying harder or changing external circumstances, but about reorienting our hearts towards God. Reflect on how you can replant your roots in God and make Him the center of your life.
Bible Verse ‘Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for you are my praise.’ – Jeremiah 17:14
Reflection Question What steps can you take to replant your roots in God and make Him the center of your life?
Quote To overcome this, we must replant our roots in God, making Him our ultimate source of security and strength.
Prayer Father, I want to replant my roots in You. Help me to trust in You completely and to make You the center of my life. Heal my heart and guide me in Your ways. Amen.
Day 5: Experiencing Peace and Fruitfulness
Devotional By replanting our roots in God, we can experience the peace and fruitfulness that come from being deeply rooted in His grace and love. This peace is not dependent on external circumstances but is a result of our trust in God. When we are rooted in Him, we can withstand any storm and continue to bear fruit. Reflect on the peace and fruitfulness you have experienced by being rooted in God’s grace and love.
Bible Verse ‘He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.’ – Jeremiah 17:8
Reflection Question How has being deeply rooted in God’s grace and love brought peace and fruitfulness into your life?
Quote By doing so, you can experience the peace and fruitfulness that come from being deeply rooted in His grace and love.
Prayer Lord, thank You for the peace and fruitfulness that come from being deeply rooted in Your grace and love. Help me to remain steadfast in my trust in You, no matter the circumstances. Amen.
