Kingdom Alignment Part 7 Devotionals

Day 1: What Your Treasure Reveals

Devotional

There is a simple but uncomfortable truth tucked inside Jesus’ words in Matthew 6. Your heart does not lead your treasure. Your treasure leads your heart. That flips the way most of us think about it. We often tell ourselves, “Once I feel more connected to God, I’ll start prioritizing the right things.” But Jesus says it works the other way around. What you consistently invest in is what your heart will move toward over time. That is not a warning meant to shame you. It is actually an invitation. Think about it this way. When you put time and energy into a friendship, your care for that person grows. When you practice a skill, your passion for it deepens. The same is true spiritually. When you invest in your relationship with God, your heart follows. This week, take an honest look at where your best energy is actually going. Not where you wish it was going, but where it really is. That honest look is the starting point for real change, and God meets you right there in that honesty. You do not have to have it all figured out. You just have to be willing to look.

Bible Verse

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.” – Matthew 6:19-20

Reflection Question

If someone could observe how you spent your time and energy this past week, what would they conclude you treasure most?

Quote

“Our hearts follow our treasure, and that’s a big deal. And so that means what we consistently invest in ultimately shapes what we become.”

Prayer

Lord, give me the courage to look honestly at where my heart has been going. Help me to begin investing in what truly lasts, starting today. Amen.

Day 2: More Than Money

Devotional

When Jesus talks about treasure, it is easy to assume He is only talking about money. But treasure is anything that holds the top spot in your life. It could be your career, your reputation, your comfort, your need for security, or even your family. None of those things are bad. In fact, most of them are genuinely good. The question is not whether you value them. The question is whether they have quietly moved into first place without you noticing. The writer of Ecclesiastes chased everything life had to offer. Achievement, pleasure, success, and accumulation. And after all of it, he looked around and said it felt like chasing the wind. Not because those things were evil, but because they were never designed to carry the full weight of a human heart. Your heart was made for something that does not fade. When good things take the place of the best thing, there is always a quiet restlessness underneath, even when life looks great on the outside. God is not asking you to give up the good things in your life. He is asking to be first among them. And when He is, everything else actually gets better.

Bible Verse

“Everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun.” – Ecclesiastes 2:11

Reflection Question

Is there something good in your life that has slowly moved into first place, and how has that shift affected your sense of peace or purpose?

Quote

“Each one of us treasures something, and it may not be money at all. It could be success, and it could be comfort, it could be security, it could be family, it could be reputation, experiences, achievements, possessions. And independently, none of those things are wrong. The issue is if they become the most important thing in your life, that becomes the issue.”

Prayer

Father, show me where I have let good things crowd You out. Restore You to first place in my heart, and help me trust that You are enough. Amen.

Day 3: Investments That Last

Devotional

Here is an encouraging thought. You can make investments today that death cannot touch. Loving someone well, showing mercy, choosing generosity when it costs you something, forgiving when it is hard, serving quietly without recognition, worshiping honestly, sharing your faith, and allowing the Holy Spirit to shape you into someone more like Jesus. These are not small things. These are the kinds of investments that carry eternal weight. Storing up treasure in heaven is not about earning your way to God. It is about intentionally putting your energy into what will still matter a thousand years from now. It is about building a life that points beyond itself. Paul puts it simply and beautifully in Colossians 3. Set your hearts on things above. Set your minds on things above. It is a daily, intentional act of reorientation. Not a one-time decision, but a consistent practice of choosing what lasts over what fades. You do not have to overhaul your entire life today. Start with one investment this week. One act of generosity. One honest conversation. One moment of genuine worship. Small steps in the right direction add up to a life well spent.

Bible Verse

“Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” – Colossians 3:1-2

Reflection Question

What is one specific investment you could make this week in something that carries eternal value, and what is holding you back from making it?

Quote

“Things like loving people well, acts of mercy, generosity, faithfulness, forgiveness, serving, worship, sharing the gospel, allowing and yielding the Holy Spirit so we become more like Jesus. These are things, these are treasures that death can’t touch.”

Prayer

Jesus, help me to see the eternal value in the everyday moments in front of me. Give me the courage to invest in what lasts, even when it is inconvenient. Amen.

Day 4: Guard What Matters Most

Devotional

Proverbs 4:23 gives us one of the most practical pieces of wisdom in all of Scripture. Guard your heart, because everything you do flows from it. Your heart is not just the seat of your emotions. It is the source of your decisions, your desires, your direction. What lives at the center of your heart shapes everything that comes out of your life. That is why what you consistently feed your heart matters so much. Here is the good news. You are not powerless over the condition of your heart. You get to choose what you cultivate. If you are consistently investing in your relationship with God, your heart moves toward God. If you are consistently pouring yourself into status, comfort, or possessions, your heart follows those things instead. Guarding your heart is not about building walls or becoming closed off. It is about being intentional. It is about paying attention to what you are feeding your mind, your time, and your affection on a daily basis. God is not trying to take anything away from you. He is trying to protect you. He knows where life is actually found, and He wants that for you more than you want it for yourself.

Bible Verse

“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” – Proverbs 4:23

Reflection Question

What habits or patterns in your daily life are shaping your heart right now, and are they moving you closer to God or further away?

Quote

“If I’m continually investing in God’s kingdom, my heart moves towards God’s kingdom. If it’s continually investing in status and comfort and possessions, myself, my heart generally follows those things. And Jesus isn’t trying to take something away. What he’s trying to do is protect our hearts.”

Prayer

Lord, help me to be intentional about what I allow to shape my heart. Protect me from drifting, and draw me consistently back to You. Amen.

Day 5: First Place Changes Everything

Devotional

There is a simple question worth sitting with today. What has first place in your life right now? Not what you wish had first place. Not what you think should have first place. What actually does, based on where your best attention, energy, and affection are going? When Jesus is in first place, something remarkable happens. Everything else begins to find its proper order. Your relationships get better. Your perspective shifts. The restlessness that comes from chasing things that cannot satisfy starts to quiet down. It does not mean life becomes easy, but it means you are building on something that holds. And here is the most encouraging part of all of this. The eternal life Jesus is pointing us toward does not start when you die. It starts the moment you say yes to Him. When you recognize what He did for you at the cross and in the resurrection, and you receive that, you are already living in something that will never end. You are not working toward a distant finish line. You are already in it. So invest accordingly. Love well. Give generously. Worship honestly. Your heart will follow, and you will find that life is exactly where Jesus said it would be.

Bible Verse

“Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'” – Matthew 22:37

Reflection Question

If Jesus truly had first place in your life this week, what would look different about how you spent your time, your energy, or your relationships?

Quote

“When he’s in the first spot, everything else gets better. When your relationship with God is right, your relationship with everybody else will get better, and it begins to make a huge difference in your life.”

Prayer

Jesus, I want You in first place, not just in words but in the way I actually live. Help me to love You with everything I have, and let that love overflow into every part of my life. Amen.
