Kingdom Wisdom Part 6 Devotionals
Day 1: Two Ways Before Us
Devotional
Jesus begins with a clear invitation: enter through the narrow gate. In Matthew 7:13–14, He places two gates, two roads, and two destinations before us. This is not merely a warning about where not to go; it is an invitation to choose the road that leads to life.
The choice underneath every road is deeply personal: Where will we look for life? Will we receive life from God, or will we try to define life on our own terms? Jesus invites us to trust Him as the source of life and to walk with Him.
Bible Verse
“But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” — Matthew 7:14
Reflection Question
What road am I walking, and where is my life actually moving?
Quote
“There are two gates, two roads, two destinations, and he says, ‘Choose a way that leads to life.’”
Prayer
Jesus, thank You for inviting me into life with You. Help me recognize the roads before me and choose Your way today. Teach me to trust You as the source of my life. Amen.
Day 2: Rooted in the Source of Life
Devotional
From the beginning, Scripture shows humanity facing a choice between dependence on God and autonomous living. In Eden stood the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. One way receives life from God; the other attempts to determine life apart from Him.
Psalm 1 gives us another picture: the person who delights in the Lord is like a tree planted by streams of water. A rooted life bears fruit because it remains connected to its true source. Following Jesus is not self-sufficiency with religious language; it is dependence on the Father.
Bible Verse
“That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither.” — Psalm 1:3
Reflection Question
Where am I trusting God for life, and where am I trying to control or define life for myself?
Quote
“One is a life of dependence and the other a life of autonomy.”
Prayer
Father, root me deeply in You. Where I have relied on my own understanding, control, or strength, draw me back to Your life-giving presence. Help me bear fruit as I remain close to You. Amen.
Day 3: Resist the Current
Devotional
The broad road is easy to enter because it often follows the current around us. Culture, ambition, comparison, consumerism, anger, self-protection, and the pursuit of personal happiness can quietly carry us in a direction we did not intend to go.
A current does not require effort from us; drifting happens naturally. But following Jesus requires intentionality. His wisdom may lead us differently than the crowd. As you seek to grow in that kind of intentional discipleship, resources from the Online Bible Institute can help you continue learning Scripture and pursuing life with Christ.
Bible Verse
“There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.” — Proverbs 14:12
Reflection Question
What current am I most tempted to drift with right now?
Quote
“The kingdom people don’t simply drift with the current. We follow Him.”
Prayer
Lord, show me the currents that are shaping my heart and choices. Give me courage to stop drifting and grace to follow You when Your way differs from the crowd. Amen.
Day 4: The Narrow Way Is Jesus
Devotional
The narrow way is not a list of religious rules to master. Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life” (John 14:6). The way is narrow because Jesus Himself defines the way to the Father—and because life is found in Him.
Following Jesus means learning to live with Him as King. When the world says protect yourself, Jesus teaches forgiveness. When the world says get even, Jesus teaches love for enemies. When the world says build your own kingdom, Jesus calls us to seek God’s Kingdom first. His way is not always easy, but it is the way of life.
Bible Verse
“Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” — John 14:6
Reflection Question
In what situation is Jesus inviting me to live differently from the crowd?
Quote
“The narrow way isn’t a list of religious rules. The narrow way is a person.”
Prayer
Jesus, You are the Way. Help me not only to believe things about You, but to live with You as my King. Teach me to trust Your direction when it challenges my instincts or the culture around me. Amen.
Day 5: Take the Next Faithful Step
Devotional
Most decisions that shape a life do not feel monumental in the moment. They are ordinary choices: what we give our attention to, how we respond when hurt, whose approval matters most, whether we forgive, whether we trust, and whether we obey.
Small decisions become direction. Direction becomes a road. Roads lead somewhere. Jesus does not ask us to repair every area of life at once. He invites us to notice where we are off course and take the next faithful step with Him. He does not merely point toward the narrow gate; He walks the road with us.
Bible Verse
“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” — John 10:10
Reflection Question
What is one next right thing Jesus is asking me to do today?
Quote
“Don’t try and fix everything at once. What do you do? Next right thing. Take the next faithful step with Jesus.”
Prayer
Father, show me where I am drifting and where I am off course. Give me grace for the next right thing, faith for the next faithful step, and confidence that Jesus is walking with me. Amen.
